about US

Fostering Loving Hands is a student-led organization dedicated to empowering students to create meaningful and lasting impact in their communities. Founded on the pillars of Service, Advocacy, and Community, we create opportunities for students to understand the purpose behind their work and truly connect with the communities they serve.

From educational guest lectures to hands-on service events, volunteers engage directly with disparities affecting underserved populations and gain a deeper understanding into how we can address these issues together. At FLH we believe that volunteerism is reciprocal — by serving the community, our volunteers not only give back, but also gain the knowledge, perspective, and skills to become the next generation of leaders.

Our Story

FLH was founded in 2024 to reimagine the culture of volunteering at UCR. We noticed that service often felt like checking a box for hours and we wanted to change this idea of volunteering. Our goal was to create opportunities where students could learn through their service, find joy in giving back, and discover how to better support the underserved populations.

What began as a small team of seven board members quickly grew into a community of over 40 students dedicated to the mission of service and advocacy. In just one year, FLH volunteers contributed over 600 hours to hands-on projects and educational initiatives, earning recognition from UCR for Outstanding Community Service. As FLH continues to grow, our vision remains the same — to create meaningful opportunities for students while uplifting and supporting the underserved communities around us.

During our second year, we launched our Changemakers Initiative and grew our Intern Program to give students further opportunities to develop their leadership skills to be active agents of change in the community. Through student-led projects, peer mentorship, and continued partnerships with local organizations, FLH deepened its community impact and its commitment to making service meaningful. Over the course of the year, we engaged more than 100 UCR students and contributed another 600 hours of service. For the second consecutive year, FLH was recognized by UCR for Outstanding Community Service — an achievement that reflects the dedication of our volunteers and the growing community they have helped build.
